Genuine teak does not require treatment or artificial preservatives
to protect it from natural elements. Left outdoors, the wood will
gradually turn to graceful soft silver gray on the surface. It generally
begins turning gray after approximately three months depending on the
level of exposure to sun and moisture. Complete weathering will take up
to one season or eight months to complete. However, it is important to
note that the soft gray color is only on the outer layer of the wood.
With a poly-bristle brush and soapy water, the original color can be
restored. You can also use a high-pressure washer not to exceed 1400
pounds per square inch to remove the gray surface. Minor scratches and
scrapes can be easily removed using sandpaper. However, one must
recognize by doing so the soft gray layer will be removed.
